I've certainly observed that many reviewers fail to acknowledge this to any meaningful degree. It's just annoying that almost all reviews neglect to mention exactly what programs they use in their workflow, which seems pretty important given the different relationship the components have here. That said, a couple video editor reviewers even followed up having returned it the 8GB model for the 16GB one, and they reported a much better experience. It wouldn't be in the end of the world for me, and it crossed my mind that something else in their workflow may have been the cause. I've seen quite a few video editors mention they regret only getting 8GB but the actual complaints cited were just occasional slow-down and stuttering when editing large 4K projects, although that's not something every single reviewer echoed.

I'm finding it really hard to gauge the 8GB/16GB debate, and it seems to be very specific to each individual's workflow. But if we're talking 50/50, I might hold off.Īny input/advice would be much appreciated. If it's only a slim chance, I'm happy to take the risk. What’s the likelihood that Apple announce a new Mac Mini that’s in the same price range in the next six to twelve months? I wouldn’t be interested in an MX1/M2 that’s drastically more expensive, but I don’t want to drop around £1000 (including Apple Care) only for a better model at the same sort of price range to drop within the year. I’d rather not have to shell out for additional internal storage and intend on sticking with the base 256GB SSD unless that's a major issue.ģ) I have to ask what every potential M1 Mac Mini buyer is asking around here. Would that type of thing be an issue for me, or have some people overblown this? Apple’s pricing for internal storage is quite expensive and so working with external storage is quite important to me. Although I don’t intend to edit video/audio on an external SSD very often, I wouldn’t want less-than-optimum transfer rates to rule that out. For my type of workflow, is the extra £200 justifiable for 16GB of RAM or could I get by without it?Ģ) I’ve read a few things about the speed of the ports not being as efficient as they ought to be.

#APPLE MAC MINI FOR VIDEO EDITING? UPGRADE#
On the other, I’m mindful of getting the best value possible, and given how you can’t upgrade the components at all, I wonder whether an upgrade to something more higher-end may be inevitable for me in the next five years either way. On the one hand, I’d like to future proof as much as possible. My main needs are video editing, photoshop and some audio editing.ġ) I’m struggling to decide on 8GB or 16GB of RAM. I’ve done a lot of research, but there’s a few sticking points and decisions I’m struggling to make. The form factor would be extremely convenient for me, and the general performance seems suitable for my needs. The M1 Mac Mini has really caught my eye.
